Paper Submission Guidelines

  1. An author wishing to present in IConCEES 2017 will create a document consisting of a complete description of his/her ideas and applicable research results in six (6) to eight (8) pages only, including all text, figures and references.
  2. A maximum of two (2) papers may be submitted by the same first author. If the same first author submits two (2) papers, a supplementary publication fee is due for the additional paper.
  3. Papers should be formatted according to the Guidelines described here. All papers must be written in English and submitted in MS Word (.doc or .docx) for both the review process and final manuscript submission.
  4. Papers submitted for Podium Presentation must strictly follow the IOP paper template, while papers submitted for Poster Presentation must strictly follow the IJIE paper template.
  5. Accepted papers must be presented at IConCEES 2017 by one of the authors, or, if none of the authors are able to attend, by a qualified surrogate. The presenter must register for IConCEES 2017 at one of the rates offered, and must register before the deadline given for author registration. Failure to register before the deadline will result in automatic withdrawal of your paper from the conference proceedings and program.
  6. The paper must be an original contribution. By submitting a manuscript to IConCEES 2017, the author guarantees that it has not been previously published (or accepted for publication) in substantially similar form. Furthermore, no paper that contains significant overlap with the contributions of this paper either has been or will be submitted during the IConCEES 2017 review period to any other journal or conference.

Paper Review Process

  1. Papers submitted will be pre-screened for conformity with submission guidelines and for overall appropriateness. Papers that pass the initial screening process will then be double-blind reviewed.
  2. The double-blind peer review process is employed to ensure that both authors and reviewers remain anonymous during the review process. Expert specialists within the fields of Civil and Environmental Engineering will be selected to perform the reviews.
  3. This process will take place prior to both the podium or poster presentation at IConCEES 2017 and the publication of the proceedings. Authors will receive feedback in the form of a peer review report. The paper peer review process and the outcomes presented in the review reports will be monitored and verified by the Publication Committee.

Podium Presentation Guidelines

  1. Your presentation slot includes:
    • 10 minutes of oral presentation assisted by PowerPoint slides
    • 5 minutes of questions and answers hosted by the session Chairperson.
  2. The session Chairperson will be asked to strictly enforce the time limit on your presentation. It is recommended that you time your presentation to be one or two minutes shorter than the allocated time, to allow for the change-over time and introduction.
  3. Your slides should be prepared using Microsoft PowerPoint. Special attention must be paid to:
    • The font size chosen (i.e. no smaller than 20 pt).
    • The choice of colour scheme for the background and text.
    • Avoiding text-heavy slides.
    • Avoiding injudicious use of object builds (animations) and slide transitions.
    • Keeping your presentation as simple as possible to avoid hardware and software conflicts. Audio and video files cause the most problems, so avoid using them.
  4. All presentations must run on Windows operating system. Your PowerPoint file must be uploaded to the notebook or desktop computer provided at the session room at least 30 minutes before the start of the session. Name your PowerPoint file with your name. You may use a USB media device such as a memory stick or external drive to upload your file. Presenters are not allowed to use their own laptops, so as to avoid possible technical glitches.
  5. You should report to the session Chairperson at least 15 minutes before the start of the session. Introduce yourself and provide him/her with a brief biography of yourself (3 to 4 lines), which will be used for your introduction.

Poster Presentation Guidelines

  1. Your poster must be of size A1 (59.4 cm x 84.1 cm, Portrait) and consist of material that can be mounted easily with adhesive tape or push pins.
  2. The title and content of your poster must correspond to the paper you have submitted.
  3. Plan your poster to be in logical sequence, and design it for clear viewing from a distance of beyond 1 meter, so that they can be viewed by a number of people at the same time.
  4. You must print your own poster and put it up at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the poster presentation session.
  5. Audiovisual equipment is not permitted in your poster display area.

No-Show Policy

Papers that are accepted must be presented at IConCEES 2017, either by the authors themselves, or via proxy. In case a paper is not presented at IConCEES 2017, it shall be deemed a "no-show". No-shows will be removed from post-conference distribution and will not be available on open-access publications.

Exceptions to this policy will be made in rare and unusual situations by the Organising Committee only if there is evidence that the no-show occurred because of unanticipated events beyond the control of the authors, and that every option available to the authors to present the paper was exhausted.

Authors of no-show papers wishing to appeal the no-show status of their paper must appeal by email to the Organising Committee no later than 14 days after the start of IConCEES 2017 and must provide evidence to convincingly demonstrate that their absence was as a result of forces beyond their will and control, or that an erroneous decision was made.

Decisions on appeals will be made by the Organising Committee based on the supporting evidence provided. Failure to meet the appeals deadline will automatically result in rejection of the appeal. Possible evidence for exceptions include medical documents, death notices, airline ticket receipts, visa-rejection letters, and other official documents supporting the appeal such as visa-application receipts (proof that the application was submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the IConCEES 2017 start date).

Venue

IConCEES 2017 is proud to have the idyllic tropical island paradise of Langkawi as its host.

Langkawi is situated off the coast of Kedah, consisting of a cluster of 99 islands that offer the best of many worlds: beautiful beaches, world-class infrastructure, mangroves rich in flora and fauna, ultra-cheap duty-free shopping and fascinating legends. Langkawi has a lingering legend woven into its history. Ask anyone on the island about the tragic story of a beautiful young lady named Mahsuri, and you will hear a tale of love, jealousy and a curse that was placed upon the island by her for seven generations.

Despite what looks like a slant towards tourism, many of the islanders are actually farmers, fishermen and entrepreneurs. Experience the beautiful countryside and peaceful landscape of paddy fields by renting a car and taking a leisurely drive around the island. Some of Langkawi's most rustic and memorable views are along the road that circles the island. You will pass small villages with wooden houses framed by palm trees, and children pedalling their old bicycles on errands. Aside from experiencing the local lifestyle, there is no shortage of things to do in Langkawi. Head up the thrilling cable car to the summit of Mount Macincang - Langkawi's second highest mountain - for an unrivalled view of the entire main island and beyond.

Other popular destinations are Beras Terbakar (Field of Burnt Rice), Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) and Pantai Pasir Hitam (Black Sand Beach). Boat tours are organised to Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden), Gua Cerita (Cave of Stories) and Gua Langsir (Curtain Cave). For a more intimate time with nature, go trekking through the pristine rainforest that covers most of Langkawi, or go on a boat tour of the mangroves. There are also opportunities to go for a dive, or play a round of golf at some of the 5-star resorts. Langkawi also has an Underwater World, with an underground tunnel that runs through a giant aquarium, that has received rave reviews.
